Fitbone™ Intramedullary Lengthening System

How the Fitbone Method Works
Surgery & Implantation
The Fitbone nail is implanted inside the bone under general anesthesia. A small receiver is placed beneath the skin and connected to the nail. The procedure typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours.
Patients usually remain hospitalized for around 5 days and begin assisted standing and walking within 24 hours using a walker or crutches.
Daily Lengthening Process
About 5 days after surgery, lengthening begins. Patients use a handheld external transmitter placed over the skin receiver.
Three sessions per day equal approximately 1 mm of bone growth daily. Typically, 6 cm can be achieved in around 60 days, and 8 cm in about 80 days.
Bone Growth & Consolidation
As the nail gradually expands, new bone tissue forms in the created gap. Once the target height is achieved, distraction stops and the consolidation phase begins, during which the bone hardens.
Progress is closely monitored through regular X-rays.
Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation
Daily physiotherapy is essential. Stretching and strengthening exercises prevent stiffness, maintain joint mobility, and help muscles adapt to the new bone length.
Rehabilitation continues throughout both distraction and consolidation phases.
How Much Height Can Be Gained?
